History of the Club: 6 | ||
The Club generally hosts a match during Hythe Festival Week. The photograph [left] was taken during a benefit match for the Kent player Richard Ellison. Cricket Week is still held in the second week of August. Although evening entertainments on a grand scale are no longer organised, the occasional barbecue is not unknown! For seventy years, ownership of the main part of the Cricket Ground stayed in the Mackeson family, but in 1993 the Club finally purchased the freehold and obtained a long lease from the Town Council on the part known as the 'Banana Strip'. The future of the ground was at last in the hands of Hythe Cricket Club. From the early 1970s, year-round use of the Club had increased with the addition of a bar, lounge and two squash courts and the establishment of an enthusiastic and active Squash Section. In 1997, to reflect these changes, the Club's name was changed to Hythe Cricket & Squash Club. |
