Folkestone Cricket Club Colts Day Tournament 2010

On Sunday 18th July 2010, Hythe fielded an U12 team in the annual Folkestone Cricket Tournament held at their grounds in Cheriton.

Hythe were kindly invited to participate in this event as the guest team by Folkestone Head Coach Nobby Clark. The event also saw matches involving the Under 9’s, Under 14’s and a lady’s match.
The Under 12 section saw Hythe grouped up with the three Folkestone teams, Hewson, Downey & Godden.

Match 1 - Hythe vs Folkestone Hewson

Hythe’s first match was against a very strong Folkestone Hewson team which included several Shepway players.
Hewson batted first and scored 65 without loss in their 10 overs. Their openers, Guy and Jonathan batted very well scoring 22 and 19 respectively.
The Hythe bowlers did really well to restrict them to just 65 runs especially as they only had 6 players. Will W did a fine job behind the stumps and was very unlucky not to get a stumping of the last ball.
Dylan F bowled a tidy couple of overs to only concede 7 runs

Dylan F 2 0 7 0
Jack F 2 0 14 0
Toby N 2 0 14 0
Jeffrey B 2 0 13 0
Jack C 2 0 17 0
Folkestone Hewson Total: 65 for 0 from 10 overs

Hythe got off to a good start with Jack F hitting a four of the second ball of their innings. However, the Hewson bowlers did very well to restrict Hythe to just 35 runs for the loss of three wickets. There were quite a lot of dot balls, but our batsmen will learn from this how to push for the quick singles to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Match 2 - Hythe vs Folkestone Downey

Hythe won the toss and decided to bat first this time.
Will W opened and batted very aggressively. He struck five boundaries and reached his score of 23 of just 15 balls, when he had to retire.
Jack F continued to pile on the runs with 3 more boundaries until he was run out by a fine throw.
Dylan F turned in a fine cameo performance with a couple of fours hit just behind square.
Toby N played the anchor role with some fine shots thrown in.
A fantastic effort by the Hythe batsman to post a daunting score of 94 for 1.

A good fielding performance by Hythe, with Jack F performing wonders behind the stumps.

Match 3 - Hythe v Folkestone Godden

For their final match, Hythe were put in to bat by their opposition. Whoever won this match were guaranteed to finish runners up and receive a medal. Hythe's numbers were boosted by the arrival of Scott B, who had just returned from a scout camp.
Will W opened for Hythe and once again played a surperb innings. He reached 21 of just 16 balls hitting two boundaries. If was the turn of Jeffrey B to play the holding role which he did very well. He played some fine shots and was unlucky to find the fielders several times.
It was left to Jack F to push the score along, which he did by hitting a couple of boundaries - one almost going for a six!
Hythe finished on 62 for 2 - not as much as they hoped to get!

Hythe started in fine style with Dylan F taking a wicket in his first over.
However after that shakey start, Godden's other opener, N Ward then started to play some fine shots.
With the score on 18, the batsman went for a quick single. Scott B swooped on the ball and fired in a direct hit for a spectacular run out, of his brothers bowling - a fine family effort!
Godden still managed to keep the scoreboad ticking partly due to some good shots and a lot of wides. However, Jack F took a fantastic catch of Jeffrey B bowling to leave Godden on 39 for 3.
As the match approached the final over, Godden needed 15 runs to win. Jack F bowled the tense final over and after a few scares Hythe finally won the match by 5 runs. The victory ensured that Hythe finished as runners-up with Folkestone Hewson the desivered winners.
