Handicap Scoring System

We are trying out a different handicap scoring system this year for several reasons. The system we are using is designed to 'even out' any conflict in the handicap settings. Hopefully this will make for much closer matches score-wise and also we are conscious of trying to keep match lengths to a reasonable time scale as handicap matches do tend to last longer than regular racketball matches.

Please take a little time to familiarise yourselves with the new system.

If the handicap difference is greater than 20 the higher handicap player starts the first game on +9

eg if player A is -50 and player B is -20,
player B starts the first game on +9 and player A on -21

If the handicap difference is 20 or less the higher handicap player will start the first game on +7

eg if player A is -40 and player B is -20,
player B starts on + 7 and player A on -13

eg if player A is -20 and player B is -10
player B starts on + 7 and player A on -3

If the handicap difference is less than 7 then the higher handicap player starts on the difference

eg if player A is -40 and player B is -35
player B starts on +5 and player A on 0

Games finishing 14-14 go to first player to 17
If the match goes to the fifth game and gets to 14-14, the game must be won by 2 clear points

This may seem complicated and long-winded but we believe it will result in fairer and closer matches; this system has been tried and tested at other clubs. We would encourage all participants to have a few practise matches against fellow handicappers before the tournament to get used to the system and if possible get someone else to mark or score the match
