Hythe Cricket Pavillion (1960)

Artist: Patricia Holt-Wren N.D.D, A.T.D.

A life-time of painting, textile & costume design, interiors, teaching, lecturing, theatrical scenery and decor … Pat won a major county award to study Art and Design for 5 years at colleges of her own choice: Kingston College of Art; Hammersmith College of Art; and London University; followed by a post-graduate course in Art History, History of Architecture, Fine Art and Sculpture at The Royal Academy Schools. Re-locating to the Kent coast, Pat taught Art and Design in Dover School of Art and Folkestone School of Art and for over 20 years was Head of Art at Brockhill & St.Leonard's. Pat has exhibited in numerous galleries and still undertakes commissions. In 1960, the cricket pavilion was under threat of demolition being constructed of timber and clapboard. Pat found the building interesting: reminiscent of Edwardian times. By keeping a record of the original club house, in oils, she felt others would be able to appreciate it when it was gone however, it remained standing until destroyed by an arson attack in April 2004.
